Costa Rica - Butterflies : Pictures from a 2 week trip to CR in March '07, most pics were for ID purposes. Bob Ringler was nice enough to look through them and help ID most of them, or at least point me in the right dirrection. I have added his comments below the pictures, mine are below his. Thanks Bob, hope you don't mind.

Mystery Warbler : Matt Hafner and I observed this warbler in the fall of 2006 on Assateague Island. Late in migration, most of the warblers were Myrtle with a few Palm and Pine. When the bird flew in I called it a Palm with out lifting my binoculars. It was yellow tinged and pumping its tail like a Palm would. But on closer inspection it looked more like a Myrtle. So, funky plumage and habits, or a hybrid MyrtleXPalm?

The Colorado Chicken Run : In April of 2006, I did the 'Chicken Run' in Colorado. Basically the 'Chicken Run' consists of visiting the grouse and prairie chicken leks around the state. A lek is a sight where the males come strut their stuff and compete for females. Each species has it own unique display which usually consists of strange sounds, foot stomping, struting, and inflations of colored skin throat sacks.Traveling companions were Jim Brighton, Ed Boyd, and Jim Stasz. Over the course of nine days we visited five leks and drove about 1600 miles. The trip was great, I would recomend it to anyone who has ever considered it.

Your Bio

This whole thing is a work in progress. Many things are not labeled, but with time they will be. As one would be able to tell by looking at the pictures, I have a great interest in the outdoors. From birds and bugs to backpacking. Most of what I do is in Maryland, but I do manage a few trips a year. If you see something mislabeled, feel free to make a comment. Taking pictures of things is a way to better understand and learn more about my surroundings. Enjoy.
